It is now exactly 2 years since the Node was formed in June 2004. The Node is getting to its feet quite nicely. It is currently working on two major projects:

1. Research project "South African Scenarios Study: Two Decades of Learning"
The Anglo American Corporation of SA granted $50,000 for this project.
South Africa has benefited enormously from several public scenarios undertaken since the 1980s which helped to facilitate the transition from apartheid to democracy, as well as the development of a new political-economy. The purpose of the research project is to document, analyse and compare the conceptual, methodological and analytical approaches used by the major scenario exercises that were conducted in SA before and after the 1994 constitutional transition; asses the impact; and extract the learning from these towards building foresight capacity. This learning will be shared with the global foresight community, through inter alia the Millennium Project.

2. The 20th World Conference of the World Future Studies Federation will be held in South Africa
The 2007 WFSF World Conference will be organized by the South African Node of the Millennium Project and the African Futures Institute, October 30 - November 3, in Johannesburg.
The SA Node won the bid to do so after a process of competitive bidding and are proud that we have been selected. Apart from participants from the Northern Hemisphere and Latin America, we are making a special effort to bring African participants to the Conference.

Any ideas or comments on the above projects that may want to share with us are more than welcome. We are also open to partnerships with any other Nodes
