Background:

The Chilean Node was founded in 2007 in Santiago by academic and ambassador Héctor Casanueva, during Jerome Glenn’s first visit to Chile. Glenn’s visit was to present the State of the Future report spanish version for that year, participate in a seminar on global challenges sponsored by the Senate, the Ministry of Planning, and the Miguel de Cervantes University, and hold meetings with the President of the Senate and the City Governments of Valparaíso and La Serena. He was accompanied by Miguel Ángel Gutiérrez and Luis Ragno from Argentina, and José Luis Cordeiro from Venezuela. Since then, Node has been active, developing various activities related to foresight and futures studies, under the formal framework of the Chilean Council for Foresight and Strategy.
The Node has been active in the creation of the Future Challenges Commission of the Chilean Senate, and in the annual Future Congress since 2011, a highly prestigious international event. The Node and the Council are members of RIBER, the Iberoamerican Foresight Net.

The Node, together with the Chilean Council, has contributed to the preparation and presentation of a bill to create a state institution for anticipatory governance based on strategic foresight. This institution aims to guide the public and private sectors, universities, NGOs, and other organizations in making present-day decisions based on future scenarios. The bill is currently under legislative review in parliament (2026).

Objective:

  • Develop, promote and disseminate in Chile the Foresight discipline and futures studies.
  • Contribute to improving with foresight approach policies in matters that affect the future of the country and its global insertion.
  • Bringing together specialists in Foresight, Strategy and future studies, belonging to multiple disciplines and activities, academic, professional, business, military, diplomatic and political, from the public and private sectors. and linked to global groups and networks.

  • Analysis, reports, studies in Strategic Foresight and futures studies.
  • Workshops, seminars, conferences, publications.
  • Courses and other academic programs in cooperation with universities and research centers, from Chile and abroad.
  • Editing in coordination with the Chilean Council, the monthly magazine “Prospectiva y Estrategia”
  • Cooperate with The Millennium Project, the Ibero-American Net of Foresight (RIBER) and other futurist associations.
