Finland

Objective:

The aim of the Helsinki Node (Finland) is to promote foresight, connect foresight community and design foresight projects in order to improve humanity’s prospects for building a better future.

Recent activities:

  • Several MP affiliates in other nodes are contributing to Part 2 of the book by the Finnish Society for Futures Studies ‘Our World of Futures Studies as a Mosaic’ which will be published during the FFRC Conference in Turku in June 2026.
  • Sirkka Heinonen is preparing a lecture on the The Origin and Activities of the National Foresight Eco-System in Finland for the online course to be organized by Jan Hurwitch in Costa Rica, Fundación Ética Visionária (FEV) (Desafío IAG: Ética, Derechos y Ser Humano en un Mundo IA Ciclo 2: Las Nuevas Tecnologías y Nuestras Democracias, 10 enero-11 julio, 2026).
  • Osmo Kuusi has efforts for establishing youth-orientated committees for the future and he is engaged in an initiative to support establishing a node in Western Africa (Nigeria/Ghana) which would facilitate establishing committees for the future in Africa, working with Dr Martins Kwazeema, a Nigerian alumnus from our Turku Futures studies programme.

The main task is to create systems for people to think together about futures. Action modes:

  • Scientific research
  • Education
  • Development of futures studies and foresight.
