The Millennium Project (MP) and the Red Integración Regional Cono Sur de Innovación, Prospectiva y Estudios de Futuros officially launched their new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 25, 2025, during a virtual event that gathered regional leaders and foresight practitioners. The agreement, signed by Millennium Project Executive Director Jerome Glenn and by Miriam Núñez, Regional Coordinator of the Southern Cone Regional Integration Network, marks a significant step toward deepening cooperation on futures research, innovation, and anticipatory governance across the region. The launch event was attended by members and partners from across the region. Special thanks were extended to Ibon Zugasti, Deputy Director of The Millennium Project, Javier Vitale, Mendoza Sub-Node Co-Chair, Eduardo Hugo Bilches, Javier Cubilla, Karina Mariel Argüello, Ana Carosini, Carlos Petrella, Nelly Monges, Luis Ragno, Patricia Giménez, Gerardo Colmán Huerta, and Julián Eduardo Malcón González for accompanying and supporting the ceremony.
The Southern Cone Network, launched in 2024 and led regionally by Miriam Núñez and working in close collaboration with the MP Mendoza Node in Argentina at the Centro de Estudios Prospectivos de Cuyo represented by Javier Vitale and Luis Ragno, aims to strengthen regional capacities to anticipate complex socio-economic challenges and co-create inclusive and sustainable futures. Its shared vision for 2050 is to become a leading regional platform for foresight, innovation, and territorial transformation, capable of inspiring and mobilizing communities across Latin America. Other bodies included in the network are Centro de Planificación y Estrategia (CEPE) de Paraguay, Dextra Uruguay, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Brasil), Red Argentina de Estudios de Futuros (RAEF), and Universidad de Ciencias Empresariales y Sociales (UCES).
Under the MoU, the Millennium Project and the Southern Cone Network commit to developing joint research initiatives, training programs, and foresight-driven innovation projects; promoting regional integration among academia, public institutions, and civil society; and increasing visibility for foresight work through publications, multisector dialogues, and strategic collaboration. A Joint Coordination Committee will guide implementation, monitor progress, and propose new initiatives, including potential collaboration with the RIBER regional node of the Millennium Project.
The agreement has an initial duration of three years and renews automatically, reaffirming both organizations’ long-term commitment to strengthening anticipatory capacities and supporting strategic decision-making for sustainable and inclusive development across Latin America.
