The upcoming webinar “Diálogos-IAES: Desafíos Globales y Amenazas Existenciales. Reflexiones para la Universidad”, organized by the Instituto Universitario de Análisis Económico y Social (IAES) on 2 December 2025 at 17:00 CET, will discuss the 15 Global Challenges facing humanity updated by The Millennium Project over decades, providing a roadmap to understand pressing issues such as sustainable development, access to clean water, poverty reduction, education, peace, energy, and global ethics.
The webinar will also explore the 9 existential threats identified by Jerome C. Glenn, including climate change, technological risks, future pandemics, nuclear war, malicious use of nanotechnology, and asteroid impacts. Drawing on insights from the State of the Future 20.0 report, the discussion will emphasize priority actions to address these challenges and the essential role of academia, governments, businesses, and civil society in shaping a safer and more sustainable future.
Representatives from the Millennium Project network will contribute actively to the conversation. Héctor, Chair of the Chile Node, and Concepción Olavarrieta, Co-Chair of the Mexico Node, will share experiences on how the Mexican Node has applied this framework in international awards and publications such as Futuros México hacia 2050 and Latinoamérica 2050, highlighting regional approaches to global foresight and strategic action.
The webinar offers an opportunity for participants worldwide to engage with the Millennium Project’s long-term perspective on global challenges and existential risks, and to explore actionable strategies for the decades ahead.
