Launch of the new Querétaro Node

  • Memorandum of Understanding, Mexico Node, Querétaro Node

On September 2, 2026, The Millennium Project proudly announced the official launch of the Querétaro Sub-Node under the Mexico Node. The launch event and official signing ceremony were hosted on campus at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Campus Querétaro, marking a strategic expansion of the global foresight network into a thriving region of Mexico.

The gathering brought together a distinguished audience, including the TEC de Monterrey Campus Director, regional government secretaries, municipal officials, NGO and business leaders, faculty, and students. The event featured participation and remarks from key leaders across the network. Concepción Olavarrieta, Founder President of the Mexico Node and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of The Millennium Project, provided vital support and was instrumental in proposing the creation of the sub-node. Jerome C. Glenn, Executive Director of The Millennium Project, joined live from Washington, D.C., to emphasize the global dimension of the network. Dr. Guillermo Gándara Fierro, President of RIBER and Co-Chair of the Mexican Node and Monterrey Co-Chair, attended in person at the Querétaro campus to deliver an inspiring presentation on transitioning from global future to local action (download presentation). Meanwhile, Krisztina Lengyel Almos, new appointed Chair of the Querétaro Sub-Node, welcomed attendees and outlined the chapter’s regional objectives.

The Querétaro Sub-Node will function as a regional platform for futures research, education, and multi-sector dialogue. Operating under the umbrella of the Mexico Node, it seeks to connect global methodologies with local challenges across the State of Querétaro and the Bajío region.

The sub-node’s upcoming initiatives will focus heavily on applied futures research by studying regional technological, social, environmental, economic, and geopolitical transformations. It will also drive inter-institutional cooperation by promoting joint initiatives with academic centers such as UNAM, UAQ, TecNM, and regional networks like DistritoQRO. Furthermore, youth engagement remains a primary goal, with an undergraduate student group already forming on campus to cultivate the next generation of campus futurists and actively participate in sub-node activities. Looking toward future milestones, the chapter is already preparing to host the Annual Meeting of The Millennium Project in the Fall of 2027.

This successful launch highlights Querétaro’s strong commitment to long-term strategic planning, proving that the region does not need to wait for the future to arrive, but can actively build it.
