The Millennium Project is officially expanding its global footprint with the launch of the new Australia-New Zealand (ANZ) Node, hosted by Design Futures Aotearoa (DFA). This newly established shared ANZ node is set to connect futures practitioners, researchers, policymakers, educators, and civic leaders across both nations, building upon a long regional tradition of futures thinking and previous contributions to global foresight.
Launched on June 1, 2026, the new hub builds on a long regional tradition of futures thinking. It serves to connect futures practitioners, researchers, policymakers, educators, and civic leaders across both countries, linking local foresight work with global research and collaboration.
Australia and New Zealand share critical long-term challenges, including climate adaptation, Pacific resilience, AI governance, demographic change, and Indo-Pacific security. By utilizing The Millennium Project’s 15 Global Challenges framework, the ANZ Node aims to bring unique regional insights into international conversations, while simultaneously returning global foresight resources to local decision-making, public imagination, and institutional practice.
As a newly established Node, the immediate focus is strictly on network-building and integration. Current activities include connecting local experts with The Millennium Project’s international network and identifying key regional priorities where the ANZ region can offer distinctive insights—specifically in areas like Pacific climate futures, democratic resilience, intergenerational wellbeing, productivity, and social cohesion.
Additionally, the node is actively supporting global research through regional contributions, expert interviews, and Delphi studies, while building local awareness of key tools like the State of the Future report and developing relationships with regional policy, research, and civil society networks.
The newly formed ANZ Node is led by Co-Chairs Victoria Mulligan, based in New Zealand, and Joanna Lepore, based in Australia, who are steering the strategic establishment of the network across the region.
