  • RIBER, world futures day

On March 1, 2026, the World Futures Day in Spanish took place as a major international event co-organized by the RIBER and The Millennium Project, with the support of 32 institutions across the region. The initiative brought together a broad and interdisciplinary community of futurists, academics, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to reflect on the key transformations shaping the future of Ibero-America and beyond for ten hours.

Among the main topics discussed were the future of inequalities, the future of humanity in the face of artificial intelligence, the role of strategic foresight in territories and communities, the future of agri-food systems, the importance of developing futures thinking skills among young people, current geopolitical dynamics, and collective uncertainty.

Beyond participation metrics, the event generated valuable qualitative outputs, including discussions on anticipatory governance, energy transition, technological innovation, migration, sustainability, and development scenarios toward 2030–2050. These exchanges produced strategic insights and conceptual inputs that will be further systematized for future publications and academic outputs, strengthening the knowledge base of futures studies in the region.

Over the course of 10 hours, 230 participants joined the event, with an average connection time of 2 hours and 27 minutes. The dialogue was facilitated by 20 moderators from 16 countries, reinforcing the initiative’s global and collaborative dimension.

Analysis of participation reveals a positive outlook for future editions. Notably, 16.2% of attendees (37 participants) remained connected for five hours or more, demonstrating exceptional engagement. An additional 42.8% participated between one and five hours, meaning that 59% of participants experienced a substantial and sustained learning journey throughout the day.
