Tribute to Ted Gordon

During the first hour of World Futures Day 2024, midday in New Zealand, The Millennium Project paid a heartfelt tribute to its co-founder Thedore J. Gordon, joined by his children, Katie Gordon, Tom Gordon, and Lisa Gordon, and close colleagues.

Jerome Glenn, Executive Director, remembered him as “a great gentle giant who contributed more to futures research methodology than anyone in history.” Gordon’s children shared personal stories of his mentorship, curiosity, and the “what if?” approach that shaped both their lives and the work of the Millennium Project. Colleagues, including Elizabeth Florescu, Director of Research, praised his modesty, creativity, and tireless commitment to exploring new ideas, while Paul Saffo, Board of Directors, highlighted the lasting impact of Gordon’s guidance on generations of futurists.

Ted Gordon, co‑founder of The Millennium Project, was a globally respected futurist and pioneer in futures studies, advancing forecasting methods including Delphi, Cross‑Impact Analysis, and the State of the Future Index. He helped transform the field from speculation to rigorous, systematic research, and his influence continues through the work of the Millennium Project and futurists worldwide.

His family’s heartfelt reflections, alongside colleagues’ praise for his curiosity, kindness, and mentorship, underscored the personal as well as professional legacy he leaves behind. Gordon’s contributions to foresight and global thinking will continue to inspire generations of future researchers and leaders.
