Summer School in Futures Studies in Genoa, Italy – October, 2026

A new Summer School by FutureSis, the Futures Studies section of the Italian Statistical Society – SIS, on Futures Studies, will take place in Genoa from October 14–16, 2026. The three-day intensive program focuses on theories, methods, and practical tools to explore and anticipate possible futures by combining quantitative, qualitative, and anticipatory methodologies.

Coordinated by Simone Di Zio, Co-Chair of The Millennium Project Italy Node, under FutureSis, the initiative is supported by the University of Genoa, The Millennium Project Italy Node, SIS, and Ecosistema Futuro. The school will be in Italian.

The curriculum combines foundational concepts and applied methodological training, guiding participants through the entire anticipatory process—from scanning and driver identification to the Delphi method, data clustering, and scenario development. By integrating quantitative, qualitative, and anticipatory frameworks, the program highlights the role of data in supporting structured foresight. Emphasis is placed on methodological rigor in contexts defined by uncertainty, complexity, slow and fast variables, shocks, and emerging patterns, equipping participants with practical skills to bridge forecasting, foresight, and strategic decision-making across research, policy, and organizational settings.
