Moritz von Stetten (Future Impacts / Germany Node of the Millennium Project) has published a new paper examining recent Millennium Project research on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and its implications for the future of work. The paper builds on discussions with Jerome Glenn, Executive Director of the Millennium Project, held in November in Germany and revisits the Work/Technology 2050 scenarios publication by The Millennium Project through an AGI lens.
The analysis highlights AGI as a potential turning point for societies, economies, and governance systems. While AGI could enable a more sustainable and self-actualising economy, the paper stresses that this outcome depends on early, effective regulation and strong governance structures. Without them, AGI risks exacerbating inequality, social instability, and global insecurity.
A central focus of the paper is the urgent need for coordinated national and international action, including the possible establishment of a UN-level AGI agency, to ensure that technological progress aligns with democratic values and human well-being.
