On February 14, 2026, The Millennium Project (MP) marks its 30th anniversary, celebrating three decades of global, participatory futures research dedicated to humanity as a whole. What began in 1992 as a feasibility study by Ted Gordon and Jerome Glenn—at a time when even reaching the year 2000 felt ambitious—has grown into a unique, decentralized international think tank. The Millennium Project pioneered global futures research that is not tied to any single country, ideology, or issue, helping to shape how long-term thinking informs policy, security, sustainability, and human development worldwide.
Over the past 30 years, MP has made lasting contributions, including advancing the concept of environmental security, demonstrating the feasibility of global futures research, creating tools such as the State of the Future Index (SOFI) and the Global Futures Intelligence System (GFIS), developing the 15 Global Challenges, twenty editions of the State of the Future, producing more than 70 futures research reports, and engaging over 4,000 participants through its international network of Nodes. More recently, MP has also played a key role in bringing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) governance onto the agenda of the UN system.
The whole success of the Millennium Project—and what makes it truly unique—rests on its global network of Nodes. This network, which started with just a dozen Nodes, has expanded over the years to more than 70, enabling broad international participation and the collective accumulation of wisdom about the future. Through this decentralized structure, thousands of experts and practitioners from diverse cultural and disciplinary backgrounds have contributed to MP’s work.
To mark the anniversary, MP will host an informal internal Zoom meeting for members of the Millennium Project Planning Committee (MPPC). The call will take place on February 14, starting at 7:00 am (Silicon Valley), 10:00 am (Washington, DC), 4:00 pm (Central European Time), and 11:00 pm (Beijing). The session will offer space for open reflection on past achievements and future directions.
Leading up to the anniversary, MP is also compiling a list of its major impacts and contributions over the past three decades. The celebration will conclude with a short reflection on what has been achieved—and a shared commitment outlining priorities for the next 30 years, looking ahead toward 2056.
