The second edition of the Futures4Europe Conference 2026, titled “Daring to imagine otherwise,” took place in Rome, Italy, from September 30 to October 1, 2026, at the National Research Council of Italy. Building on the success of its inaugural event held in Vienna in May 2025, the conference brought together global foresight experts and practitioners. Named after futures4europe.eu—the online hub for foresight in Europe—both the platform and the conference were developed under the EU-funded project Eye of Europe.
The Millennium Project made a significant contribution throughout the event through speeches, workshops, and poster sessions. Sirkka Heinonen (Co-Chair of the Helsinki Node and MP Board Member) delivered an oral presentation titled “The importance of looking at the other side of the coin – the un-futures expanding the scope of tomorrows“ during the parallel session on September 30. On October 1, Mara Di Berardo (Communications Director and Co-Chair of the Italy Node) presented her study on “Evaluating World Futures Day as a Method for Collective Intelligence“, reporting the first results of the RealTime Delphi survey launched in March within the project “World Futures Day as a Cross-Cultural Participatory Foresight method for Addressing Global Challenges” funded by the Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd Foundation Research Grants for Humanitarian Development 2025.
Anna Sacio-Szymańska (former Chair of the Poland Node and President of the Foresight Europe Network) facilitated a workshop titled “Countervisuality Futures Lab: Making Other Futures Visible” on September 30 and displayed a poster on “The Right to Imagine Otherwise: Countervisuality of Futures”. Additionally, Eliza Savvopoulou (Helenos Consulting) presented a joint initiative with Stavros Mantzanakis (Helenos SA and Co-Chair of the Greece Node) titled “Systems that shape the future: a collaborative foresight journey for 2040 innovation in Central Macedonia, GR.”.
The Millennium Project leadership and international nodes were further represented by Ibon Zugasti (Deputy Director of The Millennium Project and Spain Node Chair), who presented a poster on “Futures of business organizations to reduce inequalities” on behalf of Prospektiker and ASETT, and Kacper Nosarzewski (Co-Chair of the Poland Node), who provided the HalnyX 2.0 platform by 4CF The Futures Literacy Company for the WFD study.
The Futures4Europe conference was an extraordinary opportunity for global networking, collaborative insights, and meaningful connections across the foresight community.
